Men's Basketball Rallies From 21-Point Second Half Deficit To Defeat Staten Island, 79-71
Purple Knights Outscore The Dolphins, 55-29, In The Second Half
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team trailed by 21 points, 55-34, with 17:04 to play in the second half, but the Purple Knights stormed back to outscore the visiting College of Staten Island Dolphins, 55-29, in the second half to post a 79-71 East Coast Conference men's basketball victory in Hubble Gym on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Bridgeport moves to 9-14 overall and 6-8 in conference play. CSI falls to 7-14 overall and is also 6-8 in the ECC.
Sophomore D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) and junior Malcolm Moye (Hartford, Conn.) led UB in scoring on the day, as the each poured home 18 points. Collins' 18 points are a career high.
Freshman Taj Chiles (Harlem, N.Y.) with 13 points and sophomore Ryo Kobayashi (Kanagawa, Japan) chipped in 10 points to round out four UB players in double figures on the afternoon.
Junior Mason Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) led Bridgeport on the glass as he snagged nine rebounds for the winners.
The bench played a key role in the Bridgeport victory on Saturday, as the Purple Knights' reserves outscored the Dolphins not in the starting five by a 28-17 margin.
Staten Island's Bryce Waterman led all scorers in the game with 23 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will close out a quick two-game homestand on Wednesday night, when Bridgeport hosts Molloy College in ECC action. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
