Ali Sumareh Leads UB In Scoring With 14 Points On The Night
Orangeburg, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team say its early season record fall to 1-3 on Saturday evening, as the Purple Knights were defeated by the Caldwell University Cougars (2-1), 77-69, at the 9th Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College.
Bridgeport led, 29-25, with 5:05 to play in the first, but the Cougars closed the opening stanza out on a 9-3 run to take a 34-32 advantage into the halftime break.
The Purple Knights tied the game at 34-34 just under two minutes into the second half, but Caldwell finished the contest outscoring UB, 43-35, to earn the win.
Junior Ali Sumareh (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in scoring on the night with 14 points, and he was joined in double figures by sophomore Tim Dawson (New Haven, Conn.), who netted 11 points.
Junior Malcolm Moye (Hartford, Conn.) finished just shy od double-digit scoring with nine points.
UB graduate student Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia) led UB on the glass with seven rebounds, plus he blocked four shots.
Caldwell's Anthony Cooper led all scorers in the game with 21 points.
The UB men's basketball team will look to get back in the win column tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. against the tournament host the Dominican (N.Y.) College Chargers.
