Senior Bakary Camara Reaches The 1,000 Career Point Mark As UB Men Win At Mercy, 107-87
Six Purple Knights Reach Double Figures In Team's Twelfth Straight Victory
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-Six players reached double-figure scoring including senior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.), who became the 32nd player in program history to reach the 1,000 career point plateau with his 10 points on the afternoon, as the University of Bridgeport men's basketball defeated host Mercy College, 107-87. Saturday's victory is the twelfth straight triumph for the Purple Knights who move to 16-2 overall and are a perfect 8-0 in East Coast Conference play. The host Mavericks are now 4-14 overall and 2-6 in the ECC.
The 107 points scored by UB on Saturday are a 2019-20 season high, and that tally marks the third time this season the Purple Knights have topped the century mark in team scoring.
Camara, who scored point number 1,000 with a hoop with 5:03 to play in the second half, finished his historic afternoon with a double-double grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.
Senior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) led Bridgeport is scoring on Saturday with 19 points.
UB sophomore Jayden Iturmendi (York, Pa.) tied his career high in scoring set earlier this season with 16 points against Mercy.
Rounding out the Purple Knights in double figures on Saturday were junior Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) with 13 points, and junior Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) plus freshman D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.), who each netted 11 points. The 11 points scored by Collins on Saturday are a career high.
Bryan Griffin led Mercy with a double-double of a game-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The Purple Knights forced Mercy into a total of 27 turnovers on Saturday and converted those miscues into a total of 32 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will look to run its winning streak to 13 games next Saturday at Queens (N.Y.) College. Tip-time is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Flushing, New York.
