Purple Knights Pick Up Big Non-Conference Men's Basketball Road Win Over St. Anselm, 88-79
Five Players Reach Double-Digit Scoring And UB Forces The Hawks To Commit 24 Turnovers On The Day
Manchester, N.H.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up a big non-conference road win on Wednesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights traveled to New Hampshire and defeated the defending NCAA Division II East Regional champions, the St. Anselm College Hawks, 88-79. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 7-2 overall and on a three-game winning streak. St. Anselm is now 6-4 overall. The Bridgeport victory also snaps a three-game St. A's winning streak in the series between the two teams.
Balanced scoring and tough, full-court pressure defense were the keys to coming out on top for UB, as five players reached double figures for the winners, and the Purple Knights forced the Hawks to commit 24 turnovers in the contest.
Junior Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) led Bridgeport in scoring with 21 points. He was joined in double-digit scoring by senior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) with 15 points, junior Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) with 14 points and senior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) and junior Juan Coffi (Barcelona, Spain) with 13 points apiece. Camara also had a team-high seven rebounds for Bridgeport.
Chris Paul and Miles Tention led the Hawks in scoring, as they each netted 17 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will play its final game before the Holiday Break on Saturday afternoon when the Purple Knights host Queens (N.Y.) College in and East Coast Conference contest at 3:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym. Saturday will also be UB's Bruce Webster Game honoring the Purple Knights' long-time coach plus the University's 1,000-point career scorers form both the women's and men's programs will be honored in between game of the doubleheader.
