Three Purple Knights Selected To All-East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Squads And Head Coach Mike Ruane Named ECC Coach Of The Year
Seniors Sam Joseph And Sharif Cobb And Junior D'Vonne Trumbo Honored For Their Outstanding Play
West Babylon, N.Y.-Three members of the 2017-18 University of Bridgeport men's basketball team have earned All-East Coast Conference recognition for their outstanding play this season helping the Purple Knights go 24-4 overall and capture the ECC regular season title with an impressive 17-1 record. Senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned a spot on the All-ECC First Team and senior Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y.) and D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) were selected Second Team All-Conference in a vote of league coaches' released on Friday night.
Joseph, a Third Team All-East Coast Conference selection last season, has led the Purple Knights in scoring average so far this year at 14.3 points per game. He also leads the team in steals with 62 and three-point shots made, has dished off 49 assists and grabbed 4.8 rebounds per game entering this weekend's 2018 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament.
Cobb is second on the team in scoring average so far this season averaging 12.2 points per game, and he is also second in assists with 74.
Trumbo, a dynamic playmaker, leads the ECC in assists with a total of 156 while committing only 57 turnovers in 26 games played entering the ECC Championship semifinals. He is averaging 7.9 points and a team-leading 4.9 rebounds per game plus has added a total of 38 steals so far in 2017-18.
Head Coach Mike Ruane has been slected as the East Coach Conference Coach of the year by his peers for the first time since 2011 and the fourth time in his career.
