Men's Basketball Races Out To Big Lead And Holds On To Defeat Post University, 85-79
Purple Knights Are Now 3-0 So Far In 2017-18
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team moved to 3-0 on the young 2017-18 season on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights raced out to a big 53-32 halftime lead and then held on for an 85-79 non-conference win over the Post University Eagles in the opening game of the LIU Post Men's Hoops Classic on Long Island. Post is now 1-2 overall on the season.
Senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led four UB players in double-digit scoring as he connected on 5-of-9 three-point shots and finished with 17 points. Joseph was joined in double figures by sophomore Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) with 15 points, freshman Yasir Lawrence (Elmont, N.Y.) contributed 13 points off the Bridgeport bench and junior Vakas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 10 points and grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds.
The Purple Knights' defense forced the Eagles to commit 29 turnovers which UB converted into 28 points.
Up next, the Bridgeport men's basketball team will wrap play on Sunday in the LIU Post Men's Hoops Classic with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Merrimack College.
