UB Men's Hoops Posts An 83-78 Comeback Victory Over Pace to Open 2017-18 Campaign
Sam Joseph Leads UB With 22 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team won its 2017-2018 season opener on Saturday night in the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium in a comeback effort. The Purple Knights trailed the visiting Pace University Setters by as many as 17 points in the first half and 40-31 at halftime, but the Purple Knights battled back to win 83-78. It was the first regular season game for both team,s and their first matchup in the 2017 UB Men's Basketball Crossover Classic.
UB senior guard Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers in the game with 22 points , as he connected on 5-of-11 shots from the floor including going 3-of-6 from three-point range. Joesph also grabbed seven rebounds on the night.
Joseph was joined in double-digit scoring by junior guard D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, NJ) and senior guard Sharif Cobb (Harlem. N.Y.) with 15 and 11 points respectively. Junior Eric Rankin (Bronx, NY) added solid play off the bench for the winners with 12 points.
Brandon Jacobs led four Setters in double figures with 19 points.
Both teams are back in action on Sunday in the UB Men's Basketball Crossover Classic as Pace takes on Post University at 2:00 p.m., and Bridgeport faces Adelphi University at 6:00 p.m.
