Head Coach Mike Ruane Earns 300th Career Win As Men's Basketball Cruises Past Dowling, 121-91
Purple Knights Connect On 20-Of-34 Three-Point Shots And Shoot 62.2 Percent From the Floor For The game
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team gave head coach Mike Ruane his 300th career victory in his sixteenth year on the Purple Knights' bench in convincing fashion on Tuesday night using red-hot shooting that included hitting whopping, single game, school record, 20 three-point shots on 34 attempts (58.8%) to cruise past the visiting Dowling College Golden Lions, 121-91 in East Coast Conference action. The 121 points are season-high for Bridgeport and the most since a 124-point effort against Assumption during the 1993-94 campaign. UB are winners of six of their last seven games, and they raise their overall season record to 7-6, and their conference mark to 5-1. Dowling is now 6-7 overall and 2-4 in the ECC.
UB dominated the game racing out to a 60-47 lead at half, as the Purple Knights connected on 24-of-38 shots in the first 20 minutes (63.2%), including hitting 10-of-20 three-pointers. In the second half, Bridgeport shot 61.1 percent (22-of-36 FGs), including draining 10-of-14 three-point shots (71.4%). For the game, UB was 46-of-74 from the floor (62.2%). The Purple Knights pumped in 61 points in the second half.
The winners also had impressive 33 assists with only seven turnovers on the night. Freshman D'Vonne Trumbo (Franklinville, N.J.) had 10 assists with zero turnovers on the evening.
Senior Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led six Bridgeport players in double figures with a game-high 22 points.
UB senior Muhammed Ahmed (Bronx. N.Y.) netted 18 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Eric Rankin (Stratford, Conn.) also had 18 points, a season-high.
Rounding out the double-digit scorers for the Purple Knights were seniors Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) and Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.), each with 17 points, and junior Stefano Osuji (Voorhees, N.J.) with 12 points.
Evan Maxwell led five Dowling players in double figures with 20 points.
The UB men's basketball team is back in action at home on Thursday night when they host Molloy College in East Coast Conference action. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m., as the Purple Knights will look to run their winning streak to three games.
