UB Men Win Sixth In A Row To Move Back Into A Tie Atop ECC Men's Hoops Standings Heading Into Saturday's Regular Season Finale
Purple Knights Defeat Molloy, 77-66, On Senior Night
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up its sixth straight win and eighth victories in its last nine outings with a 77-88 Senior Night home East Conference triumph over the visiting Molloy College Lions on Thursday night. The win also moves the Purple Knights into a first place tie with St. Thomas Aquinas College at 16-3 atop the ECC heading into Saturday regular season finale for UB at Queens (N.Y.) College. STAC finishes its regular season at home versus the University of the District of Columbia that same afternoon. Bridgeport is now 21-6 overall. Molloy is 15-12 overall and 10-9 in conference play.
Junior Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the UB offense on Thursday with a game-high 18 points, 11 of which came in the second half. He also had six assists, five rebounds one steal and did not commit a turnover on the night.
Elliott was joined in double-digit scoring for the winners by classmates Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.) with 16 points off the Bridgeport bench, Eddie Asamoah (Calgary, Canada) with 15 points and Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N,Y.) with 12 points. All of Jones' made field goals were three-point shots, as he went 4-of-6 from downtown, and Asamoah grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for the winners.
Richard Zoller, Brandon Williams and Matt McLeod led Molloy, as the each had 12 points for the Lions, who are still searching for their first all-time head-to-head victory against Bridgeport in UB's Hubbell Gym.
Thursday night also make the final game action in Hubbell Gym for five senior on the Purple Knights' roster, Naqwan Crowell, Frank Dogali, Kraig Lewis, Dominique Oneil Moorer Jr. and Willie Williams III.
