Men's Hoops Blasts Dowling, 105-71
UB Now 20-6 Overall And 15-3 In The ECC. Purple Knights Have Now Posted 20 Wins In Nine Of Their Last 15 Season Under Head Coach Mike Ruane
Bridgeport, Conn.-Every player that entered the game scored and the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights led from wire-to-wire, as UB cruised to a 105-71 East Coast Conference win over visiting Dowling College Golden Lions on Tuesday night. The 105 points scored are a single-game, season-high for the Purple Knights who up their overall record to 20-6 and their conference mark to 15-3. Tuesday's victory marks the ninth time in 15 years under the direction of head coach Mike Ruane that the Purple Knights have reached the 20-win plateau. Bridgeport has also won five games in a row and seven of their last eight outings. Dowling falls to 11-14 overall and 9-9 in the ECC.
Juniors Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.) lead five Bridgeport players in double-figure scoring as they each netted 19 points. Elliott also dished off eight assists and had five rebounds, and Jones scored his 19 points off the UB bench.
Classmate Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) had 17 points and seven rebounds, senior Willie Williams III (Norwalk, Conn.) chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals and senior Naqwan Crowell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) added 10 points and three steals for the winners.
As a team, the Purple Knights hit 52.8 percent of their field goals (38-of-72), including going 14-of-31 from three point range.
Bridgeport also dominated the glass outrebounding Dowling 51-32, and UB forced the Golden Lions into 18 turnovers.
Darien Davis led three Golden Lions in double figures with 17 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will close out its 2014-15 home schedule with a senior night tilt versus Molloy College on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. After the Molloy game, the Purple Knights close out the regular season at Queens on Saturday.
