Indianapolis, Indiana-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team is ranked number four in the first NCAA Division II East Regional Poll of the 2014-15 season released on Wednesday afternoon. The Purple Knights take an 18-6 overall record and are 13-3 in the East Coast Conference tied for the top spot in the league with St. Thomas Aquinas heading into a Saturday ECC match-up at the University of the District of Columbia.
The NCAA Regional Rankings are used to determine which five teams will receive at-large bids to the 2015 NCAA Division II Championship Tournament along with the three automatic qualifiers in the region, the tournament champions of the East Coast, Northeast-10 and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conferences. NCAA Regional Rankings will be announced each Wednesday afternoon for the remainder of the season.
So far this season, Bridgeport has a win and a loss versus top-ranked Southern Connecticut State, plus victories over number five American International and number seven USciences. Number three St. Anselm and number 10 Bentley have posted wins over UB so far this year.
