UB Men Take 92-88 Overtime Home ECC Basketball Win Over Roberts Wesleyan
Quick 8-1 Run To Open Extra Period Proves The Difference For The Purple Knights
Bridgeport, Conn. – For the second consecutive home game, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team had to play an extra five minutes of basketball, and this time, unlike last Saturday versus NYIT, the Purple Knights came out on top defeating ECC foe Roberts Wesleyan College, 92-88, in overtime. UB is now 17-6 overall and 12-3 in the East Coast Conference. The visiting Redhawks slip to 9-11 overall and 5-9 in conference play.
With the game tied at 77-77 heading in to overtime, Bridgeport opened the extra period on an 8-1 run to take an 85-76 lead which they never relinquished.
Junior Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in scoring with 22 points, as he connected on four three-point shots plus was a perfect 8-for-8 at the foul line.
UB senior Willie Williams III (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded his tenth double-double of the season scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Junior Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.) contributed 16 points off the Purple Knights' bench and classmate Eddie Asamoah (Calgary, Canada) rounded out the Bridgeport double-digit scorers with 11 points, plus he added eight rebounds and four assists.
Roberts Wesleyan's Marcus Gooding led all scorers on the night with 29 points, as he went 9-of-12 from three-point range.
The UB men's basketball team is right back in action on Saturday, as the Purple Knights host the Wildcats of Daemen College in a key East Coast Conference tilt at 4:00 p.m.
