JoJo Swift's Buzzer-Beater Lifts UB Men To Thrilling 89-86 ECC Road Win Over LIU Post
Six Purple Knights Reach Double-Digit Scoring Led By Swift's 20 points
Brookville, N.Y.-Senior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) knocked down a three-point shot from the top of the key at the buzzer to lift the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team to a thrilling 89-86 East Coast Conference win over the host LIU Post Pioneers on Wednesday night. UB is now 6-6 overall and 4-2 the ECC. The win by Bridgeport also snaps an eight-game win streak for the Pioneers who are now 9-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
The Purple Knights led 68-53 with 12:46 to play only to see LIU Post battle back to tie things at 84-84 with 1:09 left in the contest. Bridgeport would take a two-point, 86-84, lead with 34 seconds to play on a lay-up by Swift, who finished as the game's leading scorer with 20 points, but the Pioneers would come right back to knot the game at 86-86 on a lay-up by Tyuan Williams with 16 seconds to play setting up the game-winning, buzzer-beater again hit by Swift.
Five other Bridgeport players reached double-figures scoring on the night, as junior Antoine Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in 16 points, senior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) had 13 points, junior Frank Dogali (Oxford, Conn.) had probably his best game in a UB uniform with 11 points and a tram-high nine rebounds, plus junior Sean Berry (Irvington, N.J.) and senior Ognjen Zoric (Subotica, Serbia) each netted 10 points. Swift had eight assists to go along with his 20 points, and Berry added eight boards for the winners.
Tyuan Williams (19 points and 10 rebounds) and Vaughn Allen (11 points and 10 rebounds) each had double-double for the Pioneers.
UB is back in action on Saturday afternoon when the Purple Knights open a three-game homestand by hosting NYIT. Action is scheduled to get underway in Hubbell Gym at 3:00 p.m.
