Late Three-Point Shot Lifts Mercy Men To 85-84 ECC Hoops Win Over Purple Knights
UB Hits The Holiday Break At 3-2 In Conference Play And 5-6 Overall
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-Mercy College's Chaz Morrish hit a three-point shot with 10 seconds to play to lift the host Mavericks to an 85-84 East Coast Conference win over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon. Mercy is now 1-8 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. UB is now 5-6 overall and 3-2 in the ECC. The Mavericks led the contest 74-65 with just over 10 minutes to play only to see the Purple Knights rebounded to grab an 82-76 advantage with 3:23 to go, but Mercy closed out the game on 9-2 run to pick up the victory.
Junior Naqwan Crowell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 15 points off the bench. Crowell was joined in double figures by senior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 13 points, senior Ognjen Zoric (Subotica, Serbia) with 11 points, and junior post player Sean Berry (Irvington, N.J.) had his fourth consecutive double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Kirk Bailey led five Mercy players in double-digit scoring with a game-high 21 points.
The UB men's basketball team will now take its Holiday Break, and the Purple Knights will return to the court on January 8, 2014 at LIU Post.
