Men's Basketball Ups ECC Record To 3-1 With Impressive 83-60 Home Win Over St. Thomas Aquinas
Sean Berry Notches Third Straight Double-Double For The Winners
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team raised its East Coast Conference record to 3-1 and evened its overall mark at 5-5 with an impressive 83-60 home win on Wednesday night over the visiting St, Thomas Aquinas College Spartans. UB only trailed 2-0 and by one point two other times early in the first half on the night, and the Purple Knights raced out to a 42-28 halftime lead. STAC is now 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the ECC.
Senior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) led Bridgeport in scoring with 16 points.
Junior Sean Berry (Irvington, N.J.) notched his third consecutive double-double for the winners with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Berry also blocked three shots on the night.
Seniors Ognjen Zoric (Subotica, Serbia) and JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out UB players in double-digit scoring, as Zoric netted 11 points and Swift chipped 10 points plus added five assists.
Bridgeport shot an impressive 52.6 percent from the floor on the night (30-of-57), and outrebounded the Spartans, 49 to 35.The 60 points scored by St. Thomas Aquinas are the fewest points that Bridgeport has allowed in a single game so far this season.
Omar Kellman led the Spartans with 13 points and nine rebounds/
The Purple Knights will travel to Mercy College on Saturday, December 21 as they will play their final game before the holiday break. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
