Purple Knights See Two-Game Men's Basketball Winning Streak Snapped At SCSU, 97-90
UB Back In Action At Home On Wednesday Night Versus St. Thomas Aquinas
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team saw its modest two-game winning streak snapped on Monday night, as the Purple Knights fell , 97-90, in a high-scoring non-conference road game at Southern Connecticut State University. UB is now 4-5 overall, and SCSU ups its season mark to 7-1 overall.
Trailing, 48-42 at the half, Bridgeport saw the host Owls open the second half with a flourish, as SCSU took a 19-point, 71-52, lead with 11:14 to play. UB staged a comeback of its own to cut the lead to only two, 92-90, with 1:01, but Southern Connecticut kept the Purple Knights off the scoreboard in the final 61 seconds of play to post the 97-90 victory.
Junior Sean Berry (Irvington, N.J.) led Bridgeport notching his second straight double-double with 23 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Senior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 17 points and six assists for the Purple Knights, and junior Naqwan Crowell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) contributed a season-high 14 points off the Bridgeport bench.
UB junior Antoine Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the Purple Knights' in double figure scoring with 13 points.
Tylon Smith led five SCSU players in double-digit scoring with a game-high 37 points.
The Bridgeport men are back in action on Wednesday evening when the return to Hubbell Gym and East Coast Conference action as they host the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
