All Five Starters Reach Double-Digit Scoring As Men's Basketball Bests Queens, 82-70
Purple Knights Win Consecutive Games For First Time This Season
Flushing, N.Y.-All five starters scored in double figures as the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up an 82-70 East Coast Conference road win over the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on a snowy Saturday in New York City. Saturday's victory gives the UB men back-to-back victories for the first time this season, as the Purple Knights even their overall record at 4-4 and move to 2-1 in conference play. Queens remains winless so far this year at 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the ECC.
Senior JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights as they each scored 18 points. Swift also added five assists for the winners.
Junior Antoine Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netted 14 points and grabbed eight boards for UB, and classmate Sean Berry (Irvington, N.J.) finished with a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Senior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) rounded out the starting five in double-digit scoring for the Purple Knights contributing 11 points.
Bridgeport trailed 5-0 to open Saturday's contest, but the squad rebounded to grab a 36-27 lead at halftime.
Queens' Amir Tarif led all scorers on Saturday with 21 points.
The Purple Knights are back in action on Monday evening when they travel to New Haven to face Southern Connecticut State University in a non-conference game. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. UB returns to Hubbell Gym on Wednesday night when they host St. Thomas Aquinas at 7:00 p.m.
