Darian David Nets 1,000 Career Point As UB Men Top St. Thomas Aquinas, 96-83, For Eleventh Straight Win
Purple Knights Can Clinch ECC Regular Season Title With Win Over Molloy On Wednesday Night
Sparkill, N.Y.-Senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) became the 29th player in the storied history of the University of Bridgeport men's basketball program to eclipse the 1,000 career points plateau when he netted the eighteenth of his team leading 24 points to help the Purple Knights to a wire-to-wire 96-83 East Coast Conference win over the host St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans on Saturday afternoon. David has scored his now 1,006 career points in only two years in a Purple Knights' uniform. UB, winners of 11 straight games and 15 of their last 16 contests, is now 18-8 overall and 15-2 in the ECC. STAC falls to 5-21 overall and 5-16 in conference play.
The 96 points scored by the Purple Knights on Saturday are 2012-13 single game high for offense, as Bridgeport shot 58 percent from the floor (30 of 52) and 62 percent from three-point range (8 of 13).
David was joined in double-digit scoring by junior Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) with 23 points, and seniors Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 12 points and Omari Howard (Bronx, N.Y.) with 11 points.
Waiters had a fine all-around afternoon also chipping in nine assists, six rebounds and six steals for the winners.
St. Thomas Aquinas was led by Justin Brown with 27 points.
Up next for Bridgeport is a home ECC game versus Molloy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Hubbell Gym. If the Purple Knights defeat the Lions on Wednesday, they will clinch the East Coast Conference regular season title.
