Msoo Ikyaator Named Co-ECC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Senior's Outstanding Play Helped Purple Knights To ECC Regular Season Title And Top Seed In Conference Tournament With Two Wins Last Week
Central Islip, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport senior Msoo Ikyaator (Nigeria, West Africa) has been selected a Co-East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding play last week (Feb. 21-27, 2011). He shares this week's award with Michael Hill of Dowling College.
Ikyaator helped Bridgeport to a pair of wins last week that raised the team's winning streak to eight games and clinched the 2010-11 ECC regular season title and the top seed in this week's conference championship tournament which will be played at UB, as he averaged 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in road wins over STAC and C.W. Post. Msoo also hit 15 of 21 field goals on the week (71.4%). In Wednesday's win over St. Thomas Aquinas, he scored 16 points and had five rebounds. In UB's nationally televised 67-65 win at C.W. Post on Saturday, Ikyaator scored 16 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Msoo scored his team's final three points in the win, and hit what proved to be the game-winning hoop with 1:09 to play.
