Dave Boykin Leads Five Purple Knights In Double Figures With 19 Points
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team raced out to a 9-0 lead and never trailed in the contest, as the Purple Knights posted their fifth win in a row with an 85-60 East Coast Conference road triumph over the host New York Tech Bears on Wednesday night. Bridgeport, which has also won 10 of its last 11 games, is now 15-8 overall and 15-3 in conference play. NYIT falls to 10-13 overall and 8-10 in the ECC.
Graduate student Dave Boykin (White Plains, N.Y.) led five UB players and all scorers in the game with 19 points. Joining Boykin in double-digit scoring for the Purple Knights on Wednesday were senior Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 17 points, junior Josh Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 16 points plus senior Msoo Ikyaator (Nigeria, West Africa) and junior Donte Mentor (Brooklyn, N.Y.), each netted 10 points. Ikyaator led all rebounders in the game with seven boards.
Kayvon Roberts led New York Tech with 18 points.
Bridgeport shot the ball well in Wednesday's win connecting on 49.2 percent of its shots (35-of-71 field goals).
The Purple Knights will look to run their winning streak to six games when they play their regular season home finale on Saturday afternoon when they host Queens (N.Y.) College. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 3:00 p.m.
