Purple Knights Reach The 100-Point Mark For Second Staright Game
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team reached the 100-point for the second straight game, as the Purple Knights posted a 100-61 home East Coast Conference win over the Mercy College Mavericks on Wednesday night. Senior Msoo Ikyaator (Nigeria, West Africa) lead all scorers in the game and five Bridgeport players in double-figures with 21 points. Wednesday's victory is the third in a row for the Purple Knights who have now won eight of their last nine games. UB is now 13-8 overall and 13-3 in conference play. Mercy falls to 1-20 overall and 1-15 in the ECC.
Ikyaator was joined in double-figure scoring for Bridgeport by junior Josh Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 20 points (6-of-7 from three-point range), junior Eion Lewis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 16 points and senior Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Moyan Henry (Bridgeport, Conn.) each contributed 10 points.
UB's Tim Cokley (Sr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) led all rebounders in the game with 10 boards. Bridgeport dominated the glass, as the Purple Knights outrebounded the Mavericks, 56-34.
Manny Garcia and Hasan Powell led Mercy in scoring, as they each had 11 points.
Bridgeport will look to extend its winning streak to four games on Saturday afternoon when they host Molloy College. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 3:00 p.m.
