Jermain Washington Leads Team In Scoring With 16 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-Bentley University outscored the University of Bridgeport 16 to 11 in overtime, as the Falcons posted a 66-61 non-conference men's basketball win over the host Purple Knights on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Connecticut The win is Bentley's eighth straight victory, as the Falcons are now 8-2 overall. The loss drops UB's overall record to 3-4.
Bridgeport sent the game into overtime tied at 50-50 when senior Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit a long two-point jumper with 30 seconds to play. Washington led UB in scoring with 16 points, and he was joined in double-figures by junior Deonte Mentor (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 12 points and senior Msoo Ikyatoor (Nigeria, West Africa) with 11 points.
Sophomore Dan O'Keefe led five Bentley players in double-figure scoring with 14 points.
The Falcons held two key advantages on the day, as Bentley outrebounded Bridgeport, 42-21, and hit 27-of-36 free throws; while Bridgeport was 8-of-12 form the foul line.
The Purple Knights will off for the exam and holiday break. UB returns to the hardwood at UMass-Lowell on Thursday, December 30th. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
