Southern Connecticut Nips Men's Basketball, 59-56
Tim Cokley Notches A Double-Double With 15 Points And 14 Boards
Bridgeport, Conn.-University of Bridgeport senior Tim Cokley (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) notched a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, but it was not enough for the Purple Knights who suffered their second straight loss to open the 2010-11 season, as they fell at home to the Southern Connecticut Sate University Owls (2-0), 59-56 on Sunday afternoon.
After trailing by as many as 13 points in the first half, UB rallied to take a 56-55 lead with 4:06 to play when junior Josh Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.), who had 14 points on the afternoon, made a driving lay-up. Unfortunately for the Purple Knights, that was their last basket of the day. SCSU's Trevon Hamlet hit a basket with 1:22 to play to give the Owls a 57-56 lead which they never relinquished.
Senior Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) joined Cokley and Martin in double-figure scoring with 11 points for Bridgeport.
Southern's Chazz McCarter led four Owls in double figures with a game-high 16 points.
The UB men's basketball team is now off until December 1st, when they open East Coast Conference play at Dowling College.
