Springfield, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team saw its season mark fall to 7-25 overall, as the Purple Knights were swept in a road non-conference doubleheader at American International College on Saturday afternoon, as UB lost game one, 4-3, in walk-off fashion, and the Yellow Jackets completed the sweep with 1n 8-1 win in game two. AIC is now 9-16 overall after weeping the weekend series from Bridgeport.
In the opener, the Purple Knights lead 3-1 heading into the seventh and final inning and were one out away from a 3-2 win, but AIC scored twice to post the 4-2 win. All four of the Yellow Jackets runs in the opener were unearned.
Sophomores Marcos Dominguez (Danbury, Conn.) and Christian Ortiz (Linden, N.J.) had runs batted in for UB in the opener.
Joe Nemcheck (Grad., Turmbull, Conn.) has his second straight strong start on the mound limoting AIC to only four hits over six innings in which he allowed an unearned run with nine strikeouts.
In game two, AIC scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and never looked backed.
Bridgeport's lone run came home on a seventh inning sacrifice fly from senior Jacob Rich (Northwood, N.H.).
Up next, the Purple Knights return home and get back in conference play on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Seaside Park when UB hosts Caldwell University.
