UB Baseball Opens A Three-Game Weekend Series Versus AIC With A Home Loss
Yellow Jackets Take Game One, 11-6, And The Same Two Teams Will Meet In Springfield On Saturday For A Noon Doubleheader
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team opened a three-game, non-conference weekend series against the American International College Yellow Jackets at home in Seaside Park on Friday afternoon, and the visitors came away with an 11-6 win, as AIC banged out 16 hits including three home runs. UB is now 7-23 overall, and AIC moves to 8-16.
After AIC's Brendan Edvardsen led off the game with his first of two home runs, the Purple Knights came back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-RBI single by freshman Tyler Hodella (Miller Place, N.Y.), but AIC came right back with four runs in the third to take a 5-2 lead only to see Bridgeport tie things up at 5-5 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Yellow Jackets then plate two runs in the top of the fifth to grab a 7-5 lead which they never relinquished.
Along with Hodella's two runs batted in, the Purple Knights got a pair of RBI each from senior Shane McCone (Milford, Conn.) and sophomore Marcos Dominguez (Danbury, Conn.).
Dominguez and sophomore Jeremy Rodrigues (Monroe, Conn.) led a 10-hit Purple Knights' offensive attack, as they each has two hits on the afternoon.
The same two teams will meet again in Springfield, Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader on AIC's home field. First pitch for game one is set for 12 noon.
