Bridgeport, Conn.-It was a tough afternoon on offensive for the University of Bridgeport baseball team on Friday, as the Purple Knights were blanked in both ends of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader in Seaside Park by the visiting Felician University Golden Falcons, 4-0 and 6-0. UB is now 6-19 overall and 2-6 in conference play. Felician ups its record to 13-18 overall and 6-2 in the CACC.
Bridgeport could only muster six total hits in the two games, and Purple Knights' batters struck out a total of 25 times in the 16 innings of play on the afternoon.
In the opener, Jeremy Rodrigues (So., Monroe, Conn.) had two hits, including a double, for UB, and the nightcap, junior Anthony Pascale (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and sophomore Christian Ortiz (Linden, N.J.) has the team's only base knocks.
In game one, freshman Brendan Palmer (Ansonia, Conn.) pitched well but was the hard luck loser, as he allowed only one run on seven hits with eight strikeouts and no walks over seven innings on the mound.
Up next, the UB baseball team will look to get back in the win column on Sunday afternoon at 12 noon in Seaside Park when the Purple Knights host Chestnut Hill College in a CACC doubleheader.
