Newark, N.J.-Junior Justin Leigh (Bridgeport, Conn.) led off the top of the first inning with a home run, but that solo shot was the only scoring the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights could muster, as UB dropped its 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener versus Bloomfield College on Wednesday afternoon, 18-1. Bridgeport is now 4-14 overall and 0-1 in the CACC. The Bears move to 5-15 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
Sophomore Vin Mallon (Massapequa, N.Y.) had two hits on the day, including a double, and freshman Tyler Hodella (Miller Place, N.Y.), also had a two-base hit for the Purple Knights.
The same two teams will close out their three-game conference series with a doubleheader hosted by the Purple Knights on Friday afternoon in Seaside Park. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m.
