West Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team open a busy weekend of action with an 8-1 road loss versus local rival the University of New Chargers on St. Patrick's Day afternoon. UB is now 3-12 overall, while UNH moves to 11-3 on the season.
The Chargers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed on their way to the win in West Haven.
Freshman Tyler Hodella (Miller Place, N.Y.) knocked in the Purple Knights; lone run on the afternoon with a fifth inning double that made the score at the time, 3-1.
Craig Leonard (Holtsville, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport offense with two hits on the day.
Up next, the UB baseball team opens a three-game weekend home series against the Assumption University Greyhounds with a Saturday doubleheader in Seaside Park that is slated for a 12 noon first pitch.
