Baseball Drops An 11-9 Slugfest At Barton
Purple Knights Continue Spring Trip At Francis Marion On Wednesday Evening
Wilson, N.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team stepped away from the familiar environs of its' Spring Break home in South Carolina in the Riken Experience in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday and traveled north to Wilson, North Carolina to take on the Barton College Bulldogs, and the Purple Knights fell in a slugfest by a score of 11-9. UB is now 2-4 on the 2023 season, and Barton moves to 4-9 on the year.
The Purple Knights got off to a quick start on Tuesday grabbing a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-RBI base hit by junior Anthony Pascale (Stony Brook, N.Y.), but the Bulldogs quickly responded with four runs in the first, one in the second, three in the third and one more in the fourth to grab a 9-2 lead which they never relinquished.
Junior Justin Leigh (Bridgeport, Conn.) stayed hot at the plate for UB going 3-for-5 on the day.
Craig Leonard (Grad., Holtsville, N.Y.) had two hits and drove in a run for the visitors on Tuesday, and sophomore Christian Ortiz (Linden, N.J.) had two RBI for the Purple Knights.
Junior Jake Woods (Stony Brook, N.Y.) homered for Bridgeport in the game.
Up next, the UB baseball continues its Southern Trip with a game at Francis Marion University on Wednesday night in Florence, South Carolina. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
