Purple Knights Close Out 2021 Baseball Season With An 8-2 Win At Lincoln (Pa.) University
UB And Queens Tie Four Fourth Place In ECC Standings At 12-9, But QC Advances To ECC Championship By Virtue Of Head-To-Head Tiebreaker
Lincoln, Univ., Pa.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team wrapped up its 2021 season with an 8-2 road win over the host Lincoln (Pa.) University Lions on Saturday afternoon, but the Purple Knights, unfortunately, will not advance to this season's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament. UB finishes its season at 12-9 both overall and in the ECC, and the Purple Knights tied for the fourth place in the conference standings with Queens (N.Y.) at 12-9, but QC advances to the ECC Championship by virtue of a 2-1 head-to-head tiebreaker advantage. Lincoln is now 5-19 overall and 5-13 in conference play.
In Saturday's season finale, sophomores Jacob Rich (Northwood, N.H.) and Shane McCone (Milford, Conn.) plus freshman Jake Woods (Stony Brook, N.Y.) each drove in two runs. Woods plus junior Ryan Donnelly (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Anthony Pascale (Stony Brook, N.Y.) each had two hits to lead an eight-hit offensive attack for the winners.
On the mound, sophomore Justin Nyarady (Trumbull, Conn.) closed out his 2021 season in fine style raising his season record to 3-1 with a team-leading 1.50 ERA, as he earned the win working 7.2 innings in which he allowed two runs on eight hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks.
Junior William Ciccone (Shelton, Conn.), who got out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the eight before his team plated three runs in the top of the ninth inning, worked 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick up his team-leading third save of 2021.
