UB Baseball Opens Florida Swing With 10-4 Win Over Bentley
Five-Run Top Of The Eighth Helps Lift The Purple Knights To The Victory
Altamonte Springs, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team opened its annual Spring Break trip to Florida with a 10-4 win over the Bentley University Falcons on Saturday. With the game tied at 3-3 after six innings, UB scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-3 lead which they never relinquished spearheaded by a two-RBI double by sophomore Logan Allen (Magnolia, Tex.) and a two-RBI triple by classmate Matt Rodriguez (New Milford, Conn.). With the win, Bridgeport is now 3-3-1 overall, and Bentley moves to 2-7 on the season.
Allen went 2-for-4 at the plate on the day with three runs batted in and two runs scored, and Rodriguez had three hits on the day to lead a 12-hit Bridgeport attack plus four RBI.
Sophomore Bobby Pollock (Coram, N.Y.) had two hits and drove in a run for the winners, and freshman John Chacho (Seymour, Conn.) scored two runs and drove in one for UB.
Senior Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) also had two hits on the day.
On the mound, sophomore William Ciccone (Seymour, Conn.) earned the win in relief, and classmate Justin Hafele (Seymour, Conn.) picked up his third save of 2020.
The same two teams will continue their Sunshine State series with a single game on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m.
