Baseball Hits Four Home Runs And Bangs Out 12 Hits But Falls 12-10 In 2020 Home Opener To Southern Conn. State
Same Two Teams Will Meet In New Haven On Monday Afternoon
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team blasted four home runs and banged out 12 hits on Sunday afternoon, but it proved to be not enough as the visiting Southern Connecticut State University Owls used two big innings, a six-run second and a five-run fifth, as SCSU posted a 12-10 win to spoil the Purple Knights 2020 home opener. UB is now 2-3 on the young season, and SCSU moves to 4-2 overall.
Bridgeport senior Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) crushed two home runs on Sunday, a three-run and a two-run shot, as he went 2-for-4 in the game with six runs batted in and two runs scored.
Freshman John Chacho (Seymour, Conn.) and sophomore Ryan Donnelly (Fairfield, Conn.) also launched solo homers for Purple Knights on Sunday. Chacho went 2-for-2 at the plate.
Newcomer Andre Marchesseault (Grad., Cheshire, Conn.) went 3-for-4 on the day for Bridgeport, as he had two doubles and scored two runs.
Junior Conall Roberts (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) had the Purple Knights other RBI on the day.
Junior starter Anthony Martino (West Sayville, N.Y.) took the loss for UB.
Sophomore William Ciccone (Shelton, Conn.), the third of four Bridgeport pitchers on the chilly afternoon, did a fine job in relief working 4.1 innings in which he allowed only one unearned run on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
The same two teams will meet again on Monday afternoon in New Haven.
