Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball game closed out its season-opening trip to South Carolina on Sunday morning with an 8-5 loss to the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen. With Sunday's result, the Purple Knights open the season at 2-2. SNHU moves to5-3 overall.
UB got off to good start on Sunday grabbing a 5-0 lead in in the top of the third inning on an RBI-double by sophomore Logan Allen (Magnolia, Tex.) and a grand slam home run by sophomore Bobby Pollock (Coram, N.Y.), who would finish with two hits on the day, as he also added a double.
The Penmen would rally with a single run in bottom of the third and added three in the fifth and sixth innings and one more tally in the eighth to come away with the win.
Senior Ryan Kastner (Bridgewater, N.J.), the second of five UB pitchers took the loss, for the Purple Knights, and Jake Kodros earn the win in relief for SNHU and Ricky Alexy picked up the save pitching 1,2 innings of perfect ball.
Up next, the UB baseball team is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Southern Connecticut State this coming Saturday at 12 noon.
