Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team closed out its 2017 season-opening trip to South Carolina on Sunday morning with a 6-5 loss against the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen. UB split four games in the Palmetto State to open the season at 2-2.
SNHU won the game on Sunday on a grand slam off loser Adam Thayer (Sr., Ansonia, Conn.) in the eighth inning to spoil a strong pitching performance by starter, senior Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.), who pitched into the eighth in his season debut on the mound.
UB graduate student Zach Burger (Orlando, Fla.) had two home runs and drove in three for the Purple Knights, and senior Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) had an RBI-double.
Up next, the UB baseball team is scheduled to travel to the University of New Haven for a single game on Tuesday, March 7. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
