Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team plated seven runs in the bottom of the second inning on its way to a home, 10-4, non-conference win over the visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College Clippers on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Sunday's victory over the Clippers is the second straight win by UB over Concordia in as many days, and the third time the Purple Knights have topped the Clippers in 2016. Bridgeport is now 19-15-1 overall, and Concordia falls to 12-23 on the year.
Senior Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.) led a 13-hit UB offensive attack on the afternoon, as he went 3-for-4 at the dish.
Juniors Justin Carey (Amherst, Mass.) knocked in three runs on the day, and classmate Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) had a pair of runs batted in for the winners.
On the mound, junior Matt Van Riper (Elmwood Park, N.J.) picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief to raise his season record to 4-1.
Up next, the UB baseball team will travel to Worcester, Mass. On Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference match-up with Assumption College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
