Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team saw its overall season record fall to 9-8-1 and its East Coast Conference record dip to 3-2 on Thursday afternoon following a 10-3 home loss against the Mercy College Mavericks (9-12, 2-3 ECC).
Defense was a problem for the host Purple Knights on Thursday, as they were charged with five errors which led to five unearned runs for the visitors.
On offense for UB, senior Alnaydo Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) reached based all four time going 2-for-2 with two walks, and he also drove in two runs with fifth inning base knock. Classmate Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.) also had two hits on the day for the Purple Knights, and sophomore Isaiah Rivera (Newington, Conn.) drove in Bridgeport's other run with a sacrifice fly.
The same two teams are scheduled to continue their four-game East Coast Conference series on Friday afternoon at Mercy. Game time in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
