Big Fourth Inning Lifts UB Baseball To 5-1 Win Over Dominican In Opener Of Non-Conference Double Dip On Tuesday
Purple Knights Settle For Split On The Day As Chargers Take Game Two, 8-4
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team used a five-run, fourth inning to post a 5-1 win over the visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College Chargers on a chilly Tuesday afternoon in the Park City, but UB fell in game two, 8-4, as the two teams split a non-conference doubleheader at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Purple Knights are now 16-18 overall, and Dominican is now 22-15 on the year.
In the opener, junior Brock Roggie (Lowville, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs. Junior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) also had two hits for the victors in game one.
Freshman left-hander Ryan Manning (Milford, Conn.) pick up his first collegiate win for the Purple Knights, as he worked six strong innings in which he allowed only four hits, and unearned run while fanning six and walking only one.
In game two, Dominican scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to grab a 7-4 lead which they never relinquished. Senior T.J. Mangan (Bronx, N.Y.), sophomore Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) and freshman Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.), each had two hits for Bridgeport in game two.
The UB baseball team is back in action on Saturday (April 27) at 12 noon when they travel to face Molloy College in a key ECC doubleheader that will be played at St. John's University in Flushing, N.Y.
