Purple Knights Even ECC Baseball Record At 3-3 With 10-5 Victory At Dowling
Same Two Teams Will Wrap Up Their Four-Game Conference Series In Bridgeport On Monday Afternoon
Brookhaven, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team raised its season record to 9-12 and its East Coast Conference mark to 3-3 with a 10-5 road win over the host Dowling College Golden Lions (9-13-1 overall, 5-5 ECC) on Sunday afternoon in Long Island. The Purple Knights erupted for six runs in the top of the third inning and added one more in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead, as they never looked back on their way to their second straight road win over Dowling.
The Bridgeport offense smacked out a total of 12 hits on Sunday led by sophomore Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) who went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run and four runs batted in. Senior Mike Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) went 3-for-3 on the day with one RBI, and junior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) also had three hits and knocked in two runs for the winners. Senior Jose-Luis Garcia (Bronx, N.Y.) also drove in a run for UB with a double.
On the mound, junior Mike Nowak (Latham, N.Y.) raised his season record to 3-2 with a strong start in which he pitched seven innings allowing six hits, three unearned runs, and he fanned four batters and issued only one base on balls. Seniors Matt Wing (Brookville, Ontario, Canada) and Garrett Rogers (Rennslear, N.Y.) finished up on the bump for the Purple Knights.
The Bridgeport and Dowling baseball teams will finish up their four-game ECC series with a doubleheader hosted by the Purple Knights at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday afternoon. First pitch for the two seven-inning games is set for 4:00 p.m.
