Baseball Swept In ECC Doubleheader By Dowling
Same Two Teams Meet On Long Island On Monday Afternoon
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team dropped both ends of home East Coast Conference doubleheader versus the visiting Dowling College Golden Lions on a chilly and damp Sunday afternoon. The Purple Knights fell in game one, 10-3, and Dowling completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory in game two. UB is now 3-10 overall and 0-4 in ECC play. Dowling raises its overall mark to 15-10, and the Golden Lions are 4-3 in conference action.
In game one, senior Matt Ranaudo (Milford, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and junior Mike Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) had two hits and one run batted in for the Purple Knights.
Junior Chris Maull (Winslow, N.J.) was the starter and loser for Bridgeport in the opener. Maull is now 0-2 on the season.
In game two, sophomore John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) knocked in the team's only run with a fifth inning sacrifice fly.
Junior Matt Wing (Brookville, Ontario, Canada) pitched his second complete game of the season in the nightcap, but he took the loss allowing four hits, four runs (only two earned) while striking out six. Wing is now 1-2 on the year.
The Purple Knights and Golden Lions will face each other again on Monday afternoon on Long Island. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
