Loss Ends Purple Knights' Five-Game Winning Streak
Brookhaven, N.Y.-The host Dowling College Golden Lions broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with three runs, as DC posted a 4-1 East Coast Conference win over the University of Bridgeport on Monday afternoon on Long Island. The loss snaps a five-game UB winning streak, and the Purple Knights are now 19-9 overall and 12-6 in conference play. The Golden Lions are now 16-20 overall and 12-11 in the ECC.
Senior Peter Barrows (Old Saybrook, Conn.) had two hits on the afternoon and drove in his team's only run with a fourth inning solo home run, his first of 2011.
Starter Nick Vautrin (Jr., S. Hadley, Mass.) took the loss for Bridgeport, as he allowed four runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings pitched. Vautrin is now 3-2 on the season.
The Purple Knights will look to start a new winning streak tomorrow (Tuesday, April 26th) afternoon when they host Queens (N.Y.) College in an ECC contest at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
