Volleyball Closes Out 2019 Regular Season With Hard-Fought Comeback Road Win Over Daemen
Trailing Two Sets To None UB Roars Back To Grab The Win Victory
Amherst, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team closed out its 2019 regular season schedule with a hard-fought, come-from-behind, five-set road East Coast Conference win over the host Daemen College Wildcats on Western New York on Sunday, 20-25, 19-25, 27-25, 25-19, 15-10. With victory, UB closes out the 2019 regular season with an impressive 23-6 overall record and an 8-2 ECC mark. Daemen is now 14-11 overall and 4-5 in conference play. Sunday's match included a total of 57 ties and lead changes in the five sets, including 20 ties and 11 lead changes in the third set alone which the Purple Knights prevailed in 27-25 to keep the match alive.
Sophomore Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) finished the day with a match-high 15 kills for the winners and hit .483 on the day. She was joined in double-digit kills by seniors Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) with 14 and Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) with 10. Hennemann finished with double-double, as she also chipped in 18 digs.
Junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.), each had 22 assists in the victory, and Killorin notched her own double-double with 15 digs.
Sophomore Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) led the UB defense with 26 digs.
Up next, the Purple Knights will play in the 2019 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament on Friday, November 22 hosted by Molloy College in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Bridgeport will be the number two seed in the tournament and face either Daemen or Mercy in the semifinals at a time to be determined next week.
