Purple Knights Never Trail In Straight Sets ECC Volleyball Win Over Queens
Purple Knights Now 19-5 Overall And 5-1 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team never trailed at any point in the match, as the Purple Knights defeated the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights, 25-7. 25-5, 25-9, in an East Coast Conference home tilt on Tuesday night. UB is now 19-5 overall and 5-1 in the ECC. QC slips to 2-14 overall and is 0-6 in conference action.
As a team, the Purple Knights hit a blistering .487 on the evening. Senior Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) hit .846 on the night leading the UB offense with 11 kills on 13 swings with no errors. Classmate Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was a perfect five kills on five swings.
Senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) hit .500 in the match with six kills on 10 swings with one error, and Makayla Maroney (Sr., Parker, Colo.) hit .600 with six kills on 10 attacks with no errors.
Junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) had 22 assists and two kills against Queens, and sophomore Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.) added 10 helpers for the winners.
Sophomore Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) led the Purple Knights' defense with 12 digs.
UB also registered 13 service aces in the three sets led by five by Killorin.
Up next, the UB volleyball team will host Mercy College on Thursday night in an East Coast Conference contest. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
