Purple Knights Set To Open 2019 East Coast Conference Slate With An 11-2 Overall Record
UB Falls In Four, Hard-Fought Sets At St. Anselm On Wednesday Night
Manchester, N.H.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team suffered only its second loss of 2019 on Wednesday evening, as the Purple Knights dropped a hard-fought, four-set decision to the host St. Anselm College Hawks, 20-25, 21-25, 25-16, 22-25, in non-conference play. Wednesday's match is the second in five days between the two teams and the third match-up of this season. UB won the first two contests between the teams. Bridgeport is now 11-2 on the season, and St. Anselm ups its overall mark to 8-6.
Seniors Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) and Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the UB offense in New Hampshire, as Hennemann finished with 15 kills and Burford notched 14.
Sophomore setter Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.) added another double-double to her season resume on Wednesday with 37 assists and 11 digs.
Senior Makayla Maroney (Parker, Colo.) had a solid, all-around match against the Hawks with six kills and a whopping seven blocks (three solos).
On defense, Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) led UB with 14 digs and chipped in nine service aces. Junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) had another solid defensive outing with 10 digs.
Service errors plagued the Purple Knights on Wednesday night, as UB had a total of 14 in the four sets.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's volleyball team is right back in action on Thursday night, as the squad opens its 2019 East Coast Conference schedule at Mercy College. First serve in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. is slated for 7:00 p.m.
