UB Women's Volleyball Battles But Falls In Four Sets In ECC Semifinals To Top-Seeded Daemen
Senior Ellie Rich Moves Career Assist Total To 3,855
Amherst, N.Y.-The fourth-seeded University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team battled but came up short against the top-seeded and host Daemen College Wildcats in the first semifinal at the 2018 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament on Friday, as UB fell in four sets, 18-25, 22-25, 25-16, 19-25. With the loss, Bridgeport is 14-13, and the Wildcats move on to the ECC Finals at 20-10 overall.
After dropping the first two sets, the Purple Knights stormed back to take set number three, 25-16, and led 18-16 in the fourth set, before the hosts finished off the match closing out the fourth set on a 9-1 run.
Junior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the UB offense with 10 kills, and classmate Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) was close behind with nine kills.
Senior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the UB offense with 33 assists, and she finished just shy of a double-double with nine digs. For her career, Rich has amassed 3,855 assists in four seasons.
On defense for the Purple Knights, freshman Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) had 19 digs, and she was joined in double digits by sophomore Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) with 11.
Freshman Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led all players in the match with six blocks (four solos).
