Purple Knights Topped By AIC In Non-Conference Volleyball Action
UB Back On The Court Next Friday At Queens
Springfield, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team fell in straight sets in a non-conference tilt at American International College on a rainy Thursday night, 16-25, 21-25, 20-25. Bridgeport, which has dropped two matches in a row and three of its last four contests, is now 11-8 overall. AIC, winners of seven consecutive matches, is now 13-8 overall.
After winning the first set, the host Yellow Jackets trailed 19-21 in set number two, but the hosts flip the script with six straight points to take the second set and then finished the night off by never falling behind in set number three.
Juniors Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the UB offense with seven kills apiece. Purple Knights' senior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had 24 assists on the night.
For Bridgeport on defense, sophomore Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) picked up 17 digs, and freshman Taylor Hyatt (Broomfield, Colo.) led all players with six blocks on the evening.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will take over a week off from game action before they return to the court a week from Friday at Queens (N.Y.) College. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
