UB Women's Volleyball Moves To 2-0 In Conference Play With Home Sweep Of Molloy
Purple Knights Right Back In Action on Saturday Hosting Queens At 1:00 PM
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team moved to 2-0 in East Coast Conference play and picked up its sixth win in the team's last seven outings with a straight sets, 25-23, 25-24, 25-17, home victory over the visiting Molloy College Lions on Friday evening in Hubbell Gym. UB is now 8-4 overall. With the loss, the Lions are now 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the ECC.
Junior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the Bridgeport offense with 10 kills in Friday's win.
Freshman Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) added nine kills with three blocks and hit .500 on the night for the Purple Knights.
Junior Galia Nankin (Ra'anana, Israel) had eight kills, and classmate Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) chipped in six for the winners.
UB senior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed her team's offense with 33 assists, and she also added four digs and two blocks.
The Purple Knights played excellent defense in the win led by freshman Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) with 14 digs. Sophomore Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) had 13 digs, and junior Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) fell just shy of double-digit digs with nine for UB.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's volleyball team is right back in action at home on Saturday afternoon when the host the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights in ECC play. First serve in the Hubbell Gym is set for 1:00 p.m.
