Women's Volleyball Earns Two More Weekly East Coast Conference Awards
Klein Johnson Named ECC Defensive Player of the Week And Taylor Hyatt Selected As Conference Rookie of the Week
West Babylon, N.Y.-Two University of Bridgeport women's volleyball student-athletes have received weekly recognition from the East Coast Conference for their outstanding play in matches that took place from September 10 through September 16, 2018. Sophomore Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) has been named the ECC's Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman Taylor Hyatt (Broomfield, Colo.) has been selected as the conference's Rookie of the Week.
Johnson's stellar play on defense from the libero position helped UB go 3-0 last week, as she averaged 5.60 digs per set amassing a total of 56 digs in 10 sets played. In a sweep of Bentley on Friday, Klein was all over the court registering a career-high 33 digs. She also had 11 digs in a sweep of Mercy and 12 digs in a four-set win at St. Rose.
Hyatt was a huge presence at the net for the Purple Knights last week, hitting .556 (18k-3e-27ta), averaging 2.25 kills and 1.13 blocks per set in three Bridgeport victories. Taylor had 18 kills in eight sets played with nine blocks and one dig and one assist on the week.
Senior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and junior Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also earned spots on this week's ECC Women's Volleyball Honor Roll for the contributions last week.
This week, the Bridgeport volleyball team will be in action at Adelphi on Tuesday night and host Molloy on Friday evening and Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon.
