Women's Volleyball's Ying Shen And Women's Basketball's Tanisha Carter Earn Co-ECC Player Of The Week Honors
Each Helped Their Teams To Undefeated Weeks
Central Islip, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport women's volleyball player Ying Shen (So., Nanjing, China) and UB women's basketball standout Tanisha Carter (Sr., East Hartford, Conn.) have been named Co-East Coast Conference Players of the Week in their respective sports for their outstanding play in contest that took place from November 5 to the November 11, 2012.
Shen, who had now received four ECC Player of the Week Awards this season, had another phenomenal week as she helped UB go 3-0 averaging 3.75 kills per set with an attack percentage of .470 (45 k-6 e-83 ta). Ying also averaged 2.42 digs per set and posted double-double in wins over NYIT (22 kills and 12digs) and UDC (14 kills and 11 digs). The three wins last week gave Bridgeport the regular season East Coast Conference title, and the Purple Knights will now host the 2012 ECC Championship Tournament beginning Friday evening in Hubbell Gym.
Carter averaged nearly a double-double at 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, as she helped Bridgeport open the season at 2-0 with wins over Wilmington (Del.) and St. Michael's at the UB Women's Basketball Classic On Saturday and Sunday. Tanisha also hit 62.6 percent of her field goals (15 of 24) and 81.8 percent of her free throws (9 of 11) plus added five steals and four assists in the two wins. Against Wilmington, she had double-double with 18 points and 11 boards and versus St. Mike's she scored 21 points and had eight rebounds.
