Swimmers Close Out 2019 Metro Championships In Fine Fashion
Both Squads Finish In Fourth Place In Overall Stansings
Piscataway, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up action at the 2019 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet on Sunday in Piscataway, New Jersey, and both Purple Knights' teams, competing without divers, finished with a strong showing and took fourth place in their respective meets that featured 17 scoring teams for women and 14 for men.
The UB men got off to an outstanding start on the final night of Metro Championship action when junior Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia) and senior Brian Kelly (Mahwah, N.J.) went one-two in the grueling 1650 Free.
Senior Wilmar Du Plessis (Bloemfontein, South Africa) took top honors in Sunday's men's 200 Back.
Women's senior captain Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) won the 100 Free to cap off her outstanding weekend, and Mariia Rezhylo (Kiev, Urkraine), who was named the Rookie of the Mee continued her dominance in the breaststroke events taking first in Metro's 200 Yard event where teammate Amila Beganovic (Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina) took second place.
The Bridgeport women's 400 Free Relay team of Stegu, Rezhylo, freshman Diana Naglic (Muta, Slovenia) and senior Clara Mica Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) closed things out for their team in fine style topping the podium.
