Bio

After serving the previous two seasons as an assistant coach, Jack Abelson has been promoted to associate head coach of the University of Bridgeport women's soccer program as of December 2, 2019.

"Coach Abelson has an immediate impact on the program from the moment he arrived on campus", said UB's 21-year head coach Magnus Nilerud.  "His knowledge of the game, innovative thinking along with his work ethic has enhanced the program a great deal. He has earned his stripes, and I'm looking forward to watching him grow further in the associate head coaching role."

Abelson is heavily involved all facets of Bridgeport's women's soccer program. Some of the more specific tasks include assisting the head coach in the day-to-day running of the program, monitoring student-athletes academic progress, video analysis, recruitment of domestic and international student-athletes, handling administrative responsibilities associated with the program and assisting the head coach in the planning and running of training sessions.

Jack was part of the Bridgeport staff that was named the United Soccer Coaches' Regional and National Staff of the Year in 2018, as the Purple Knights captured the NCAA Division II National Title.

Abelson is a native of London, England. He graduated the University of Birmingham, England with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science. He holds a United States Soccer Federation D License.

Coach Abelson came to UB from the Harvard University women's soccer program where he served the Crimson for two seasons. He was also involved for five seasons with the Boston Breakers front office staff in their youth programs as well as their former NWSL pro team.

Abelson and his wife, Sydney reside in Stratford, Connecticut.
